The project builds on four pillars:
- International teaming: The CominLabs aim to attract bright foreign students interested in ICT research. International chairs of excellence and fellowships for students from foreign countries will help.
- Transdisciplinarity: The scientific scope of the CominLabs covers many issues at the interface between multiple disciplines. The CominLabs aim, in their training dimension, at helping to train adequate profiles.
- Strengthening networking across the CominLabs as an innovative pedagogy. One feature of the CominLabs is its geographical dispersion and the complementary skills of each site. The new regional digital campus of the Université Européenne de Bretagne [UEB c@mpus], which uses digital techniques and technologies to link together Brittany's main universities within a network, is an excellent opportunity to develop distributed training and use ICT tools in compliance with the CominWeb initiative among the different partners of CominLabs in Brittany and Pays de la Loire.
- Promoting the entrepreneurial dimension of the training has been identified as a central duty of the CominLabs. The European initiative in Information and Communication Technology [ICT Labs] of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), of which Rennes is a node, will therefore be an excellent instrument.
In the short term, CominLabs will launch the following concrete actions in the field of education and training: Supporting the international mobility of students; Establishing chairs of excellence to build new high-level courses; Identifying appropriate courses for the CominLabs; construction of a training resource center within the framework of the CominWeb – courses will be online, and pedagogy based on distant education will be developed; Establishment of an international summer school.
